Living in Switzerland – Information and counselling online

In order to enter Switzerland, you are required to submit a valid identity document that is recognized by Switzerland. Depending on your country of origin, you will also require a visa.

There are different regulations governing entry into Switzerland (e.g. for tourists, employed persons, students or pensioners).

Many times persons who require a visa for travel to Switzerland must prove they have sufficient financial means to support them during their stay in the country. Should friends or family be responsible for this assurance, they must inform the visa office and provide the necessary proof.

Citizens of EU and EFTA countries do not require a visa to travel to Switzerland. In lieu of a passport, a valid identity card is accepted.

Please check before entry if you require a visa. Information can be obtained from Swiss representations abroad, at the Cantonal Migration Offices or at the Federal Office for Migration.
