Living in Switzerland – Information and counselling online

In Switzerland, compulsory school begins at age 6 or 7. However, the majority of children also follow two years of pre-school, beginning the year they turn 5.

All children have the right to attend 2 years of pre-school. The purpose is to prepare children for primary school and to allow a full pschyological and physical development.
Please note
Pre-School focuses in particular on the acquisition of the language used in schools (German, French or Italian). Children who speak another language at home benefit in particular from this learning. Pre-school is essential for multi-lingual chilren.
Please contact the Education Service of your local communal authority in order to register your child in pre-school.
